I'm a happy owner of a hackintosh-ed Dell Mini 9. I would love to hear the success stories from other people who have managed to install Mac OS X successfully on other brands and models of netbooks.

"Exceptionally friendly" here is defined as having, at minimum, fully functioning wireless, sound and graphics when installed with an unmodified version of OS X Leopard.

BoingBoing suggests suggests either the MSI Wind, Lenovo S10 or HP Mini 1000. Out of those three, the MSI Wind looks like the best option.

Wow... I have an HP Mini 1115, maybe I should give it a go! – Chris Thompson Jul 17 at 5:53

I've heard that the Dell Mini 9 works beautifully.

I have heard this as well. Apparently there is one component that doesn't have a driver. I think it's the ethernet, but I don't recall off hand. – Chris Thompson Jul 17 at 5:50
Ethernet works. – GeneQ Jul 17 at 5:51

I purchased a 10" Lenovo IdeaPad S10e, after reading this comparison chart on Boingboing. It was actually cheaper than the Dell Mini 9, and 160GB hard drive is very handy for multibooting. The RAM is also easily upgradeable, and there are dedicated forums to help with troubleshooting.

Specs:

  • 10.1” LED screen (1024 x 576)
  • Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz) Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 160 GB HDD (SATA 2.5”)
  • 6-Cell Battery
  • ExpressCard Slot
  • 1.3 MP Webcam
  • 4-in-1 Multi-card Reader
  • 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth

With the exception of ethernet and microphone(!), and after little tweaking, everything else in OS X 10.5.7 works perfectly!

The Dell Mini 9 according to the links already posted.

Now, the problem is, that the Dell people discontinued it, and they are available only occasionally. No worries.

The Dell Vostro A90 is essentially the Mini 9 painted black, with better customer support. And cheaper.
