I am looking at the Lenovo U530 laptop. for certain reasons, I have to pick my laptop from the Lenovo Canada site. The Lenovo Canada site ONLY has the U530 in 1366x768 resolutions. While the US versions have 1080 as the native resolutions for the same model.. Where exactly is the hardware different? and Why? The video adapter on the highest end Lenovo Canada U530 is the gt720m which has no issues displaying a higher resolution.

I am guessing the limitation is in the sub-par display/led hardware. How can I find the information on how exactly the two models are different? If it's not hardware can this be a driver/software limitation that I can bypass to get the full 1080 resolution?

Its probably just the physical display panel, and its associate control hardware (assuming they don't use embedded display port). –  Journeyman Geek Nov 27 '13 at 2:55
