I have a Netgear WPN824 wireless router. Occasionally (maybe 3 or 4 times a month) while browsing the internet, DNS will stop working. However, sites which I am already connected to, and things like IRC and MSN still continue to work. This also only affects one device at a time, other devices connected to the router continue to work.

It is not a fault of any one device, as at times this problem has been present on 3 laptops and my iPod Touch. Turning off and on wi-fi on the affected device fixes it, as does resetting the router. While this problem is ongoing, the router will not respond to pings from the affected device.

Does anyone know what is the cause of this issue?

More information:

  • All devices on the network are assigned static IPs, both in their network settings, and the router's control panel.
  • While ping does the work, the routers network interface (via https://ipaddress/ ) continues to work.
