I've got a MBP, it runs Snow Leopard. I've also got a Verizon WWAN dongle.
On the network preferences for the WWAN, there's a checkbox: show wwan status in memu bar. If I check it, it unchecks itself, and no icon ever appears.
There have been questions about this posted on Apple fora, but every one gets hijacked by someone with problems with their wwan connection. An answer to the 'wwan icon' has never, as far as I can see, emerged.
