Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My OS is Ubuntu 12.04. My firefox is 26.0.

When I try to directly open (instead of save) pdf files downloaded from firefox, I am sometimes asked to open the file in Evince and sometimes in Emacs. For example, the pdf file downloaded from http://www.4shared.com/office/joqIr8Gd/30-days-to-a-more-powerful-voc.htm is opened in Emacs. pdf files downloaded from my Google drive are opened by Evince.

How can I make all pdf files opened in Evince, and not by Emacs?

Thanks!

Although it isn't a problem I deal usually, I have a similar problem where sometimes it sets up to open and other times it sets up to save. My thoughts is that Firefox saves those preferences somewhere, in a site-specific way. Reopening a file downloaded from a site in different program will save that preference. I don't have a source for this feature, hence the comment. –  Doktoro Reichard Dec 30 '13 at 0:05
