Question

If I have a domain in Google Apps:

http://mydomain.com

If I host this under Google Apps, I can have my documents, calendar, and mail at sub-domains:

https://docs.mydomain.com
https://calendar.mydomain.com
https://mail.mydomain.com

However, these links appear just to be re-directs to a deeply nested google address. For example, the "mail" sub-domain will link to:

https://mail.google.com/a/mydomain.com/?tab=om#inbox

and "docs" forwards to:

https://docs.google.com/a/mydomain.com/#all

Does anyone have this working? I've nothing against having Google in the URL but this site is for a school and they block "Google" URLs.

I received an answer from Google support:

Unfortunately there is no way for th e URL to not contain google.com while the user is signed in. For sites you can go to your control panel > service settings > sites > web address mapping and then set a custom website mapping to your subdomain. While this works perfect as a viewer, it will change to the google.com/~~~~~ configuration when the user is signed in. So is the case for all other services.

You will have to add Google.com as an exception or the URL for these services as an exception on your web filtering provider's settings to unblock these services.

Short answer: "No"

I don't think there's a way to "hide" the Google domains. Just checked my domain. Like you said, there's a set of redirections that end up serving you services (email, calendar, docs etc.) from the Google servers. Unless you host these services on your servers - there's no way to avoid crossing into the google.com domain.

BTW, had similar issue at my last employer (although with Live Services). May I recommend using TOR? You can also use TorButton for Firefox.

You can always use a proxy like http://www.phproxy.org/

Modify the config/source so that it only allows certain URLs and link people to the proxified Google Apps.

Can you go into more detail as to what you mean by "Does anyone have this working?"
