A few weeks ago I came across a utility which listed good quality free/open source software and made it easy to install - stuff like Firefox, Open Office, GIMP etc....

...and now I can't find it. Clues gratefully received!

Do you mean Ninite? They have changed their name recently.

Install multiple apps at once without toolbars or clicking Next.

  1. Pick your favorite software below.
  2. Click "Get Installer" and run it.
  3. You're done!

This obviously isn't the one you were looking for, but you might also want to get a Dropbox account and install PortableApps on it. ;)

That's an interesting thought! I made give that one a go to keep stuff synced between computers. Why didn't Google or Microsoft think of something like that? – Ivo Flipse Apr 22 '10 at 19:39

GetIt - quickly install software, by using Windows Start Menu Search on Windows 7/Vista, or by picking them from a list on Windows XP. ... repositories are indexed locally, so you choose which program to install from a master list of all available programs.
