Can not enter any commands or any text into a Vista command window. Any idea as to why? Wanted to run CHKDSK.

Are you receiving any errors or the window just isn't catching input? Does the keyboard work fine in all other applications? Screenshot maybe? – John T Nov 13 '09 at 2:14
Keyboard works fine everywhere else. The command window opens up, get the usual flashing cursor, but no text can be entered into the window. Also was able to download a CMD replacement utility, which works fine (ColorConsole.exe) – Petr V Nov 14 '09 at 12:23

Do you get a prompt, or is it still "busy doing something"? – gbarry Feb 13 '10 at 10:05
Is it working with 'command.exe' instead of 'cmd' ? – TuxGeek Mar 18 '10 at 7:05

Try checking to make sure you have permissions to run a CMD window.

You can run enelevated cmd windows just fine. – Phoshi Nov 13 '09 at 19:57
did not know that. Cool Beans – Sakamoto Kazuma Nov 14 '09 at 4:01
I have "Full Control" for the CMD window. I can also run it As Administrator, and still can not enter any text (commands) into the window. – Petr V Nov 14 '09 at 12:26
