I use Google Mail for about 5 email accounts, as it's anti-spam is second to none.

However, what really annoys me is that when a get a spam message containing a virus, Google Mail sends me an email similar to the following:

The message "Your credit balance is over its limit" from no-reply@vodafone.co.uk (no-reply@vodafone.co.uk) contained a virus or a suspicious attachment. It was therefore not fetched from your account and has been left on the server.

If you wish to write to no-reply@vodafone.co.uk, just click reply and send no-reply@vodafone.co.uk a message.

Thank you,

The Google Mail Team

Blatantly a virus/spam as I never have owned a vodafone phone, so +1 Google Mail.

I perhaps get this message 3-4 times per day. Is there any way I can prevent Google Mail from notifying me?

I removed your email address from the quoted text. That was not a good idea to just leave it there, unless you're planning on buying some cheap V|agr@ or a Ro|e><. This question will get indexed by Google and, therefore, will be visible to spammers. – alex Nov 13 at 11:44

The email may in fact be legitimate. However, it contained an attachment that Gmail thinks is infected or dangerous.

Google has set up their Gmail system to send these notices with the “reply-to” address set to the email address of the person who attempted to send you the presumably virus-laden email. So, if you hit reply in the notice from Gmail, your reply will go back to the person who originated the email which has been quarantined by Gmail.

If you know the person to reply to, you may ask him not to attache executables or other dangerous objects. If you don't know him, this may be in fact illegitimate spam.

EDIT

You can stop these emails by making a filter in the filter tab to delete them:

from: mail-noreply@google.com
has the words: Message left on server

Then check "delete it".

I know exactly what it is and why it does what it does. My question is, how can I stop it? – GenericTypeTea Nov 13 at 11:52
+1 thanks. I'll see if I get any now. If I don't get any within 24 hours I'll accept this answer. Thanks Harry. – GenericTypeTea Nov 13 at 11:59
