Are anti-malware softwares only detect and remove spywares but not viruses?

Yes, typically your anti-malware is just that. One common example is Ad-Aware, which is not anti-virus. |

Depends on the software. There are a lot of software that split the 2 functions, and try to sell you on the integration benefits of having both. For my 2¢ on strictly anti spyware / malware software with out a doubt, the best anti-spyware / malware program for Windows is Spybot Search & Destroy. |

a-squared is one of the few programs scanning for both viruses and malware. and it fares exceedingly well on both realms. my choice is the a-squared Commandline Scanner (because it is the fastest scanner i know and can be used portable, free for personal use) but if you prefer a fancy GUI, then there is a-squared Free. |
