I am in search of a free software through which I can organize my files, folders, emails, calendar, contacts, project plans, browser, chat etc.

I found one such software - IRIS (http://www.openiris.org)

Now i am searching for other alternatives for this software....

What operating system? If you only want search / find and not the visualization aspects of Iris, I highly recommend Tracker. It's fast - once you're documents are indexed, it's just amazing how quickly it finds things. It has a simple user interface, but you can use command line tools to script all kinds of searches if you're so inclined.

Tracker integrates with common linux tools: Deskbar, Nautilus, Totem, Catfish, & Kio-find & more.

there's Nepomuk, Chandler and PLUM. The last two are under meagre development from what i can see. Anyway, hope that helped (your post is old in digital times) ;)

Next to trackerd there are a lot of other desktop searchengines (spotlight/ windows search/ ...) that do the same but can't compare to a true semantic desktop.
