I personally dislike it when tar/zip files contain many files without a base directory. For example,

mypackage.tar.bz2
├── a.txt
├── b.txt
└── c.txt

instead of

mypackage.tar.bz2
└── mypackage/
    ├── a.txt
    ├── b.txt
    └── c.txt

Is there an option to warn if extracting a tarbell without a single top-level directory? Or is it necessary to use something like tar taf mypackage.tar.bz2? Thanks!
