Possible Duplicate:
What’s a good, free alternative to WinZip?
I used to like TugZip, but the development on it has stopped and it has no x64 version, so after installing a fresh Windows 7 x64 I'm in the market for a good freeware archiver.
That said, don't limit your answers just to x64 or Windows solutions. Let's make this thread a nice thorough list of freeware archivers.
It would be nice to post one software per answer, and also to include as much information as possible about the tool. Interesting pieces of knowledge include (but are not limited to):
- What OS it supports?
- What file formats it supports (or at least how many)? The de-facto standards today are ZIP, 7Z, RAR, TAR, GZ and BZ2, so it would be nice to know if it supports at least these. ISO is also popular, although not strictly an archive format.
- Does it have a 64 bit version as well?
- Does it have GUI/CLI components?
- Does it have shell extensions?
- What other strengths/weaknesses does it have?
