while formatting and reinstalling windowsxp, normally when the drivers are being installed it restarts on its own, but this time instead of restart it shutdown. Can anyone please let me know what the actual problem is ???

Let's just recapitulate. You formatted the partition where XP was, put the installation cd (complete install or OEM?), and then when it finished installng instead of restarting and booting from HDD, it made a shutdown ? Did I get it correctly ? – ldigas Dec 30 '09 at 20:52

You question is not really that clear.

If your machine started again without problems, I would not worry.

If there are any further problems, please edit your question or start another one.

If something went wrong, just reformat and start again.

If it doesn't work, get yourself a new install CD for XP.
Apropos, which CD are you using : Complete install, or just an OEM restore CD?
Also: Do you have any hardware that requires a third-party driver added during the installation?
