What is the best Paint-like program for Mac OS X?

All,

I tried to create/edit/modify/add/delete operations for an image. I tried a software called 'Paintbrush', 'Gimp' etc, but wondering none of the software satisfies me for just to create a 320 * 480 pixels color image and add some small picture in center of the screen into that. Does any other standard free software for Mac available to do image operation(which support create, add, delete, edit etc operations)?
