I have the exact problem as described on this page, only in Windows 8 on a Windows Surface tablet: I want to turn off the SHIFT bubble that pops up near my pen cursor when I'm holding SHIFT.

However, none of the suggestions there worked. Stopping the TabletInputService did nothing. Running gpedit didn't do it, either. And my registry settings don't include anything like UIButtonMode. Help!

"Running gpedit didn't do it, either", what exactly did you do within gpedit, or did you actually just "run it"? – Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Mar 15 '14 at 18:30
Going to "Turn off pen feedback" and enabling that. (Under Administrative Templates->Windows Components->TabletPC->Cursors, as specified on the other page.) – Steve Mar 15 '14 at 19:52
