What good 3rd party search tools are there for Windows 7? I used to use Agent Ransack on Windows XP. Are there better solutions?

Google Desktop Search?

One very handy search engine/program is Everything Search. Its very handy to track down files on you hard drive if you can remember part of their filename. And it's very very lightweight and fast at indexing the files on the harddrive.

When you want to search for text within files, I've found Windows Desktop Search is really very fast and comprehensive - especially if you pair it up with some good IFilter plugins to let it look within pdf's and other popular file types.

Ava find

It should work on Windows 7, I loved using it on Windows XP, since it searches directly and updates your query with each character you type.

Windows Search 4

Too be honest performs perfectly well and also searches within documents (.doc/.pdf etc) and emails. It rarely happens that I can't find what I need using the standard search function.

A bigger problem would be that there's no "PageRank" on your desktop, so you have to know some details about the document your finding. But I think this goes for all desktop search programs.
