Google Chrome OS was previewed yesterday, and I see a number of changes against traditional OS in terms of user experience ( Windows, OSX, Ubuntu/Linux )

While the changes are not too drastic, they are still showing something quite different.

Ok this is my question:

Q: How important is in terms of usability to keep existing user experience and habituation to common idioms created by "traditional" operating systems and how much can be changed at a time?

I made an small review of the OS here. You can see screenshots and a link to the official google video of the review.( 11 mins )

NOTE:

This post was closed because originally I included the review here. Now I have changed dramatically my original post to fit SU, probably some comments make no sense now.

Where is your question? – Eight Days of Malaise Nov 20 at 15:21

Excellent Work! But it should be community wiki since the question goes out to the community as a whole and there is no definitive answer. Subjective tag would be a nice fit as well. – John T Nov 20 at 15:24

my take? rubbish! :) and @ Poshi: it's because someone doesn't like your answer. happens with questions like this, should be closed anyway. SU is not a discussion board. – Molly Nov 20 at 15:51

Downvoted: "Avoid asking questions that are subjective, argumentative, or require extended discussion. This is not a discussion board, this is a place for questions that can be answered!" Also, too many images :P – Jon H Nov 20 at 15:58

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form.

It isn't for us.

It's for my Mum, not me. Oh well, she'll love it! There's literally nothing to go wrong! It seems like it will actually fulfil apple's marketing line, "Just Works", by limiting everything that could not "just work".

"...the whole new UI is the browser it self!!!". We should have seen it coming, after all its name is Google Chrome OS... :)

I think it's more geared to the average user - facebook dweller, occasionally some office work, but definitely not for someone in search of fine tuning their system and extending it. Since everything is available on the web, performance is also limited to Chrome's backend. The performance of our "office applications" for example, such as Google Docs, are limited by the javascript performance in the browser.

As expected by most people, it would be heavily geared towards the browser. Most of this is due to Google's Monopoly mainly existing on the internet. A great idea overall, but what do you do on this system without a network connection (when it goes down for example)? Your productivity is instantly halted.

Great for most, but definitely not for me.
