My Acer Aspire 5750 laptop hard drive shuts down randomly and I have noticed that the hard drive light is off. My power settings are set to never sleep, so is this a sign that my hard drive is overheating?

There is separate setting to Turn Off Hard Drive – Vladimir Oselsky Mar 27 '14 at 15:39
This could be the sign of a couple things. Overheating is one, but could also include power issues, HDD failure or other component issues. I suggest you start backing up your data then start running things like SMART tests to narrow down the issue. – Matthew Williams Mar 27 '14 at 15:41
If you think your drive is too hot, please take a look at the SMART parameters. When using Windows, GSmartControl is a versatile tool to do so. – Daniel B Mar 27 '14 at 15:57
also make sure your disk isn't parking its heads due to ambient vibrations. Laptop drives do this to prevent head crash due to jolting. – Frank Thomas Mar 27 '14 at 16:56
