My favorite is Norton Ghost.I did not use but lots of pros propose Acronis True Image as an alternative to Norton Ghost.I have not seen any negativeness while using Ghost. |

Among the lesser known but often highly respected ones, Shadowprotect (rather expensive) and Macrium Reflect (not so expensive) is worth mentioning. |

Acronis' True Image solutions. I've been using it at business level (T.I. Server and Echo Server, I've still to try the Backup & Recovery series, which is a replacement for the True Image solutions) for about 5 years. its support is excellent and so are its features. Supports full, incremental and differential backups, selective restore, saving the images in a network share or to a FTP server, ... Check out the version comparison tables: Backup & Recovery Series & True Image Home Series. |

Don't forget CloneZilla, for a free alternative :) Note: Ghost sees EXT3 partitions as 'corrupt' EXT2, whereas Zilla knows the difference, and even EXT4. |

I have used Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 8.5 with great success. It not only does the image, it will do scheduled backups. It can also convert the image to a Virtual Machine(MS and VMWare) and it will also restore the image to totally different hardware if needed. There is a 60 day trial available. I believe there was just a new version released that supports Windows 7 |
