Not a tool per se, but the tips here made it much better for me, especially things mentioned in the "histappend" and "configuring Up and Down" sections Also, learning rsync and scp makes working with multiple computers easier, combined with screen. |

irssi can be invaluable :-) especially when stuck on Arch install ;) |

I would recommend tmux (instead of screen) and weechat (instead of irssi). |
