On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Q&A ANSWERS

I know I don't have a whole lot of Reputation on this site, but I think that I have enough know how about the Moderation process from the Beta Privileges that I enjoy on Code Review. and I think that I also possess the General Criteria that was given

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions.

I have been accused of not being active enough on Superuser, not that I haven't been active on other sites, I will be active enough here.

A Group of us over at Code Review have revived that site from almost dead, I hope that participation in Superuser will have the same effect of bringing more life into Superuser and creating more lasting members to the community.

If there is anything else that you would like to know about me please feel free to ping me the election chat room

My handle is Richie086, I am nominating myself as a moderator candidate on SuperUser.

I am a huge fan of the entire StackExchange network, but if you look at my profile it is quite obvious that SuperUser is the site I am the most active on.

I have been in the Information Technology field for 10+ years. I have previously worked as a Desktop Support Specialist, Phone Support, Jr. Network Administrator, Sr. Network Administrator, System Administrator and Technical Writer.

I visit SuperUser a few times a day to check on any answers to questions I posted the previous day, leave comments, edit posts, do reviews, etc. I have found myself using the network of StackExchange websites as my own personal knowledge base. There are always new questions to ask, but 95% of the time if I do a quick search I end up finding the solution to my issue by doing a quick search on SuperUser.

I have also edited several Wiki entries on topics such as http://superuser.com/tags/network-shares/info or http://superuser.com/tags/backtrack/info

Basically, I like helping people resolve technical issues - so SuperUser is a natural thing for me to gravitate to.

Thanks

I am a long-standing member of the Superuser community and have always worked to augment and support the moderators that work here.

I have always tried to be fair and open with new users of the site while stamping on obvious spam when it appears. I have a long history of trying to guide and help users and I believe that this community deserves the "firm but fair" leadership that it has had so far from its moderators and it is my intention that that tradition should continue for as long as possible. We welcome those who would learn while dealing firmly with those who seek to disrupt the community.

I have a long history of flagging and working through the review queues and while I have been less involved lately due to personal reasons my free time is now my own again so I can continue to work with the community to make this a place worth being.

My motto?

Please do not push strangers in front of oncoming trains (unless they really deserve it)

Everyone deserves a chance to contribute but for those that can not or will not then that's where the moderators come in.

I'm not here for the fanfare or the glory, I'm here for the long haul and to make things right.

Take a look at my responses to the Moderator Questionnaire

My goal here is to increase my visibility to community members and other community projects & discussions. I want get involved in some of the non-standard aspects of Super User.

I'm throwing my hat into the ring simply out of love for this community. Super User has been an incredible resource for me. I believe in the free-flow of information and the sharing of knowledge, which is exactly what the SE community represents.

I've utilized Super User not only to help others in need, but also to expand my knowledge by reading topics I'm unfamiliar with or trying to solve problems that require skills I don't possess.

I don't expect to end up in the top two, nor do I believe I deserve to be elected more than some of the other candidates; my involvement isn't meant to be an indication of such.

I'd like to be considered for the high post of moderator. Although I have a higher rep on the ServerFault SE, I do actively visit and participate in the SU SE. My approach is to doing what is necessary to advance the conversation while stopping abusive behavior. My approach is more on the quiet side and to intrude only when necessary. Help newcomers when they need it. I know my competitors have submitted more characters in their nomination than mine. But I'd rather be concise and to the point. Vote for me and I'll do a great job. Thank you for your time.

Q&A

I'm Canadian Luke, a pro-tem mod for Freelancing.SE and your best candidate for the Super User election. I'm active at flagging bad posts on SU already, with over 1 thousand flags deemed helpful! If I'm elected, it will give the other mods a break from their flagging, giving them more time to answer questions and be all-round great people for the site.

When down-voting or voting to close, I always try to leave a comment for the posters, remembering that they may not know how to properly ask or answer. This is what I feel would help foster and grow the community, showing how we work properly, while still being respectful and helping out.

I feel that by having more active moderators, it will lessen the load on each other to do the policing, so we can still hang out in chat (I'm constantly in the Ask a SU Mod room anyways), or answering questions for new users. I've been here more than 4 years helping out where I can!

I probably need no introduction to many of you - I've had a lot of postive comments prior to the primaries, and many of you have voted for me in the primaries. Thank you!) but for those of you who do,I've been a user on SU for nearly 5 years and I'm fairly visible - answering quite a few questions, commenting a lot - often to nudge a newbie in the right direction, or to let him know why his post was deleted. I've also tended to flag quite a lot of spam over time and help keep the site clean.

While my statistics are probably quite impressive (I'm the only candidate at present with a full set of notable badges, and I'm in the top 10, all time users), I believe I have more to offer. I have a good working relationship with the mods at Serverfault, Askubuntu, and Superuser and am a mod pro tempore at Software Recommendations. I don't see the potential dual moderatorship as being a big issue since there's a lot of overlap between the sites and least for now, SR has a managable flag queue.

I'm also on root access a lot, and nowadays on Ask a Superuser Moderator. I'm also active on MSU so I'm easy to find.

I've been active on SU for several years now. I regularly work the review queues in order to help keep the site as tidy as possible and I use the moderator tools regularly as well for the same purpose.

When needed, I work at assisting OPs with clarifying their question in order to help the community better understand what is being asked rather than jump the gun to downvote and close as quickly as possible. I will, however, move to close a question when there is no hope for it or it truly does not belong. My job is focused on training junior engineers in troubleshooting and problems solving techniques, so I try to bring that experience to SU.

I am running to become a moderator so that I will more quickly be able to assist and tidy the site and keep the quality of questions as high as possible.

A guardian for the community with an open heart for newcomers.

As a member with more than three years of experience on Super User, I'm running for moderator because I can put the tools to good use for the benefit of the community.

While I mostly work "behind the scenes", I have contributed significantly to both the global and local metas. Keeping the site clean is of utmost priority to me, evident in my efforts to eliminate spam at the root. I also maintain a strong record of flagging and reviewing content, helping to keep our content quality as high as possible.

At the same time, I have worked hard in making the site friendlier to newcomers and improving overall civility. I am a firm believer in clear and respectful feedback, and have been influential in the development of a tour for beginners. In keeping with that, I always try to leave comments whenever I downvote or vote to close so that users can understand why I did so.

As a moderator, I can help keep Super User a place everyone can trust for high-quality computer hardware and software Q&A.

Fellow super users...

For many years now, you've been subject to truly horrific question, after truly horrific question, after truly horrific question after truly horrific question. Your elected moderators have toiled respectfully and politely to shield you from the worst of the worst, but the flood of st00pidity has not abated, and you all suffer needlessly as a result.

But I am here to tell you today, that the way things are is not the way they need to be.

Fellow super users, it is time to take a stand. For all your sakes, to end your suffering, I implore you... bring in a professional to handle this ceaseless wave of luser. Bring in a sysadmin. An experienced sysadmin with over a decade of experience crushing users' spirits. A sysadmin who is not afraid to wield his LART. A sysadmin who can bring his well-earned reputation of surly cruelty and snarky sarcasm to bear against the hordes that torment you.

Vote for me, that the trolls and the st00pid may tremble with fear and flee far from SuperUser and never return.
