I have a problem with my old Outlook PST file. When I use it or import it, it makes Outlook crash. Do you know any tools to fix this kind of file?

I have Windows XP XP3 with Outlook 2007.

Have a look here: Scan and repair corrupted Outlook data files

Create a spare copy of the pst file before you try to repair.

See slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.asp – harrymc Nov 25 '09 at 7:24
It comes with office 2007, it should have been installed or it is a part of the extras on the cd. This article also explains what to do support.microsoft.com/kb/287497 – ricbax Nov 25 '09 at 13:19
@harrymc: have you seen this tool doing a decent job or have you just heard about it? Don't want to spend €100 just for fun. Unfortunately the MS tools can't recover the file. – Tobias Dec 17 '09 at 11:39
Scanpst.exe should be on any computer with Office installed. It runs as a stand alone so you can grab it from a friends computer if you can't find it on your own. I have had success with using Scanpst to repair PST files but sometimes it can take hours to run. Running a dskchk and defrag on the hosting drive can help as well. Older PST formats had a 2GB(2002 and lower) and 20GB(2003 and up) limitation - if the PST has gone over this limit the chances of recovery are much smaller. – Insomnic May 19 '10 at 20:47
