What do you mean by locking? Deny others' access or more than that?. – o.k.w Nov 28 '09 at 9:07
Locking folders seems to be a bit of an antiquated thing for Windows 7, why don't you utilize the NTFS permission system? – axk Nov 28 '09 at 10:02

If you bring up the folder properties (right click on the folder and select Properties menu item), do you have a Security tabcard?

If the Security tabcard is there, click the Edit button, then Add you as a user, then click the checkbox to give yourself "Full Control", and click the "Deny" checkboxes for all the other users. Click OK when you're done.

You'll need to login as another user to see the effect of the Security changes you've made.

A word of warning: using explicit deny will often accidentally lock you out if you aren't careful. It's highly recommended by Microsoft that you just remove all read permissions for any users/groups other than the ones you want to give permission to, and then grant permission to just those users you want. Any user or group not given permission won't be able to access it, but you won't be using risky deny permissions. Understand that Deny will over-rule Allow, so if you deny the Users group, for example, you will also lock out the admin account, because it's a member of Administrators and Users – nhinkle Jul 10 '10 at 3:51
@nhinkle yup i just did that. so am i basically screwed or is there a way to get access back? – Epaga Aug 18 '10 at 8:42
Yes, there is. You should still be able to modify the security permissions from an administrator account, even if you can't access the files. If that doesn't work, post back here and I'll give you some more ideas to go off of. – nhinkle Aug 18 '10 at 18:40
