I'm looking for a (hopefully free) RAM drive utility for Windows 7 64 (one for Vista 64 would also likely work). I use an SSD for my OS/App drive, and I'd like to minimize temp file access on it by putting my temporary folder on a RAM drive. I have an abundance of RAM, and reserving half a GB for a RAM drive would be useful.

AR RAM disk is discontinued, and does not support Windows 7 64bit.

Any recommendations?

Dataram RAMDisk appears to be free and supports Win7 64-bit. I have not tried it myself (I just found it actually), but it sounds like it might work for what you need.

+1 I'd been looking for that, thanks! – Mokubai Dec 6 '09 at 13:38
Installed it, tried it, and it's working perfectly. Thank you very much for this fine! – Myrddin Emrys Dec 21 '09 at 19:57
This is definitely your best bet for free, but I've found my computer crashes randomly when using it for any length of time – Eli May 2 '11 at 15:10

i'm using Superspeed RAMDisk for windows x64, to the best of my knowledge, none of the (free) usual suspects (e.g. the ever so popular Gavotte RAM Disk) works with win x64.

Superspeed RAMDisk is shareware ($79.95 for the x64 edition), try before you buy.

You could also try Gilisoft Ramdisk, it is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. I found a bit buggy when I tried it so I went back to Superspeed but may you have better luck with it. It's certainly cheaper than Superspeed.

SuperSpeed is indeed the most recommended RamDisk but it's expensive.

If you want something cheaper, Virtual Hard Drive Pro is "only" $29.99 and it is reported as running fine on Windows 7 64-bits.
