On my primary desktop I have an ATI TV Wonder tv tuner card, and the software that came with it is ATI's own Catalyst Media Center. Overall it does it's job of displaying TV, but I am definitely not a fan of the user interface and the responsiveness of it (seems to have a big delay in performing actions like starting to display the TV signal).

Are there any good alternatives to CMC that are compatible with the ATI TV Wonder?

I should probably note that the system is running Windows XP 64bit edition.

Is there any reason that you can't go with Media Center provided inside Windows? Preferably the new, best version about to ship in Windows 7 any day now?

Windows XP Media Center 2005 edition is quite old now and I can't recommend it. The Vista version (in Home Premium or better) is excellent, but seems like you might as well go with the latest and greatest win7 at this point.

+1 It's free and right there, and MS has spent some time working on this due to the X-Box – Diago Jul 18 '09 at 6:49

I've been using the Windows 7 MC with the same card for a few months and it works flawlessly. The Interface is clean and the new browsing functions are actually quite nice.
