I have read through many posts and still cannot get a column to autosum in excel 2010 - as it just returns the answer as zero. I have set the calculation to automatic (well it was already set that way anyway). The numbers are definitely set to general. I have also gone through error checking and there are no circular references. I cant even just hover over the cells and get a quick sum (in the grey area bottom right corner) as it just sums the number of cells now for some strange reason.

When Excel starts misbehaving like that I often find it best to copy the data into a brand new workbook (pasting as formulas only to eliminate problems caused by rogue formatting). That usually fixes the problem. – Andi Mohr Jul 1 '14 at 9:02
Have you tried a repair install of Office? – CharlieRB Jul 1 '14 at 12:36
