and how will the installation of either program solve the problam at hand? – Molly7244 Dec 7 '09 at 5:01
It won't solve the problem in IE, of course. It will work around the fact that IE seems to be broken on his system, whether it's due to a virus or a poorly-written browser plugin or something else, we don't know. As a bonus, the OP gets to use a better browser. – Joel Mueller Dec 7 '09 at 18:36

Is it one website that gives you problems?

There are many things you could try to help your problem. You could upgrade to IE 8, try an alternative web browser (firefox, safari, chrome, opera). With an alternative browser installed you can troubleshoot this easier. I also keep a couple installed in case one site gives me issues. Sometimes sites are optimized for certain browsers.

Make sure your system is up to date with the latest system updates also. I would do this first with an upgrade to IE 8 and see if it fixes your problem. Also, check your plugins (flash, etc.) and make sure they are up to date to, they could cause an issue if they are out of date also. Try a couple things and update your question with your progress!

If you are set on using Internet Explorer, then you should upgrade to Internet Explorer 8. It has more features and may fix whatever problem you're running in to.

Is it always a certain site giving you this behavior? Perhaps it's something on the page triggering it (Poorly coded javascript, flash, java applet). Check out what IE is doing exactly when the freeze occurs using Process Monitor and filter for iexplore.exe. If this doesn't help with the situation, perhaps IE8 will solve the problem. There are quite a few improvements between the versions.
