I'm looking for open source software to stitch images together into a panorama. Both Windows and Linux software will do.

Any suggestions?

Take a look at Hugin. I've only used it very briefly, but it's open source and looks quite powerful. Available on all three platforms.

Hugin is the only OS stitcher I know. Although I have never used it (I'm a happy user of the Image Composite Editor).

I just tried Microsoft's Image Composite Editor and it's amazing. Much more accurate, easier to use, and faster than AutoStitch (another free closed-source app that I had previously been using). – kpozin Jun 22 '10 at 20:16
@KP: Yes, I was an AutoStitch user before too, but ICE clearly outperforms it in many ways. – Joey Jun 22 '10 at 22:46

Gimp (which runs on both) has a stitcher plugin.

Windows Live Photo Gallery can also do this and it's free from Microsoft.

It's not open source but it is free and works brilliantly.

It's not open source, but it is free - the excellent Irfanview has been a staple for years.

Does Irfanview have support for (or a plugin that supports) stitching images into a panorama? – jeff Sep 22 '09 at 16:55
Sorry this is so late, but yes! Yes it does. It works really well, too! – ajm Sep 29 '09 at 4:48
