so: you have a USB flash drive, it has MP3 files on it, and you're trying to use a program on the computer to play the files, and it gives you a "no data" error? what operating system? what player program? – quack quixote Dec 9 '09 at 15:18
What brand and model of flash drive are you using? What is the flash drive plugged into: a computer's usb port, a car stereo's usb port, an mp3 player's usb port? In any case, what brand/model/operating system, etc? In short, please provide as much detail as possible! – eleven81 Dec 9 '09 at 15:20
In future, please review the FAQ before posting questions, this is not related to a computer hardware or software problem, and not valid material for Super User. – Diago Feb 10 '10 at 6:10

Questions on Super User are expected to generally relate to computer software or computer hardware, within the scope defined in the faq.

The usual culprit for this is the mode the MP3 player is operating in. In order to browse a USB MP3 player, some require that you enter the configuration settings and turn on something like Mass Storage Mode (names may vary). This will make the device operate as if it was a regular USB thumb drive and you can access data on it as expected.
