The longest 60 seconds ever I supposed. Why is the cd-rom taking so much time on copying just 600 mb of files from a CD? And the CD does not even have scratches.

It might depend on the size and number of files. If you've got a very large number of small files, it will take longer to copy than a small number of large files because of the computer having to set up file headers and such in the filesystem.

Another reason the copy may be slow is as a result of other concurrent read\write operations going on at the same time to the hard disk; the CD may not be spinning as quickly as it could or the disk may have physical issues like scratches (though it's unlikely, given you said it doesn't have any).

Another consideration is whether or not there is any kind of DRM that may be limiting your use of the disk; again, this is unlikely but possible.

I can't quite understand your question, but are you saying it took 60 seconds to copy 600MB of files? If so, that works out to 10MB/second, or 80Mbit/second, which is plenty fast (about 65x speed).

If you're saying it's taking significantly longer than that, possible issues include:

  • Damage to or smudges on the disc
  • Many small files, which slow down the transfer due to overhead
  • Other activity going on in the system, particularly that which has to access the hard drive
