I am currently unable to connect to the Internet on my newly upgraded Ubuntu 14.04. Network Manager is able to identify wireless networks, and it can detect when I'm plugged into an Ethernet connection, but it always seems to timeout when trying to connect. I've tried this both at work and at home and get the same results.

Can you post the output of dmesg ?

One thing you might try is to modify your /etc/network/interfaces file to include:

# The primary network interface
auto eth0 
iface eth0 inet dhcp

just after the loopback network interface entries. In theory, this should allow automatic IP address assignment, given a DHCP-enabled router.

After making changes, run

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
