The display of windows vista does not fit my laptop screen there are blank areas on both sides

Your resolution is not set correctly. Right-click on desktop, select Screen resolution and set it there to resolution of your LCD panel.

If you are not sure what your native resolution is, if you have drivers installed, it is highest resolution available. If you do not have driver for your graphics card, please download them first since most LCDs are 16:9 and standard VGA driver has only 4:3 resolutions listed.
