I'm moving to Mac Chrome which unfortunately has no decent control of which order bookmarks are in (at least in the current beta - or extensions).

I'm looking for a web or Mac desktop app that makes it easy to:

  1. Bookmark
  2. File/tag those bookmarks
  3. Retrieve same via tag/folder/date.

I've looked at Webbla but am not overwhelmed.

Is there anything out there?

I use http://www.xmarks.com but haven't tried it with Chrome yet. I do use it with Firefox on both Windows and Mac and it works great. I installed their IE version on one machine, but don't use IE enough to worry about it.

I don't have any experience with Chrome but I use a lot XMarks to keep my bookmarks syncronized between different PC's. While it won't help you to organize your bookmarks it should import your bookmark structure from other browsers.

do http://www.yattle.com/features.php or http://delicious.com/ work for you?

Interesting - but not a version that is readily available through the normal download channels. For Mac, that seems to be 4.0.249.49 (that's what I have installed, though the download I started seemed to be 4.0.249.40). – Jonathan Leffler Jan 16 '10 at 8:26
Try this link: dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel (just find the dev channel link somewhere around the middle of the page). I have it installed on my Mac; it is the latest one available, trust me :) – alex Jan 16 '10 at 10:01

I have some suggestions for you:

  1. Read everything you ever want to read immediately; don't proscrastinate, or
  2. Be better organised in general and this won't be an issue for you, or
  3. Write your own system, or
  4. Search around for systems and test them, pragmatically, until you find one that is perfect for you.

A non-answer if ever there was one. 1. This is often impractical 2. What if i want to be able to find it later 3. Admittedly this may be an option, but it's not very helpful 4. This is basically like saying "figure it out yourself, stupid" I joined superuser just to vote this answer down. – notJim Dec 16 '09 at 22:23
