For editing manuals, etc it is very helpfull to use screen shots. There are a lot of snipping tools around but i cannot found anything that

  1. take the screenshot
  2. let me edit the image by marking an area and labeling the marked area (to refer later in the text)
  3. Copy into the clipboard

all in one step, without using other image editors.

Do you know of which one make this ?

Update

Greenshot looks good and is leightweight, but i still have to draw the label (the (3) in my example, three elements: the line, the circle and the text (the text of course should be a parameter)).

@gareth yes my screenshot was hosted (before SU hosted images) on freeuploadimages.org and now only serves crap. – PeterMmm Nov 8 '11 at 15:01
No worries :) Definitely a weird replacement image! – Gareth Nov 9 '11 at 0:54

A simple, free program that does this is Greenshot.

Snagit is a much more advanced tool for screen clipping. It does cost $50 which I think it a bit much for a screen clipping tool, but it does just about everything you could want.

I used Snagit in my last job. It was very useful and well worth the money the company paid for it ;) – ChrisF Dec 17 '09 at 12:42

I also use Snagit for my current job. It's excellent, though the newest version does tend to crash and lock up from time to time. – BBlake Dec 17 '09 at 19:18

If it is only webpages that you are going to be snipping, then you could use the free version of the Fireshot extension in Firefox.

Please check out Jing

http://www.jingproject.com

It is free and does quick and easy screencaps (and videos) and can save to a variety of targets (clipboard, file, user-defined location, or their free web server). Not as comprehensive as SnagIt, but immensely useful and free.

Here's a sample:

Jing is made by TechSmith, the same company that makes SnagIt.
