a few years ago i stumbled across an amazing ruby on rails online book/ website. I can't seem to remember its name or title, or even who did it. I just know that it was a blast to read. Does it ring a bell to anyone?

Maybe "Why's (poignant) Guide to Ruby? (Wikipedia). The author, why the lucky stiff, was anonymous until earlier this year when he was identified. Right around then most copies of his work went offline but a few copies can still be found.
