We have a Moinmoin wiki where we put all of our information. We have been using it for a year and it has become bloated where we cannot find our information in our wiki anymore. Imagine a tree with multiple trunks and branches. We have to resort to typing the search term in the search bar of the wiki just to get the info that we need.

So, is there a way to re-index all the subject titles for a whole wiki? For example, grab all the links and sort them by subjects?

Questions on Super User are expected to generally relate to computer software or computer hardware, within the scope defined in the faq.

I'm not familiar with Moinmoin, but I'd start out with a remake of the start page. Use this page as an index (level 0), based on what's most important -- either by topic or by team.

Then use the next pages (level 1) for detailing the index, and so on until you link directly to the current pages. With only 2-3 levels you'll already have a high degree of findability.

That would give you a quick entry into your existing content. Another approach would be to re-do the content, at a much higher investment (time and work).

MoinMoin search works really well.

I suggest search for all my users when looking for a page or topic.

We have setup a list of categories on our main page and made a habit of adding each page to one of the 6 main categories (an entry at the end of the page). Each category page displays a list of linked pages.

Example category pages:

  • BreakFix
  • SoftwareInstall

Also take advantage of moinmoin's child URL abilities.

Example:

  • Microsoft
  • Microsoft/Windows/
  • Microsoft/Windows/HotFixes
  • Microsoft/Office/Word
  • Microsoft/Office/Excel
  • Microsoft/PowerShell

I don't support microsoft but it was an easy example.

tldr;: There is no shortcut to organisation.
