I want to use Skype. Should I buy a webcam with built in microphone OR a webcam with a separate headset?

Will the built-in microphone have much worse audio quality? I'd rather not mess around with a headset if I can.

I don't think the audio quality will be different at all, but I guess it depends on what you buy.

In regards to whether or not to buy a headset, Molly is correct, it all comes down to personal preference. Bear in mind though without a headset the audio will be output through your system's speakers. This means that you may not be able to have private or discreet conversations :)

Thanks guys. I just bought a webcam and a separate noise-cancelling microphone. This is for home use, so I'm not worried about privacy. – Iain Jan 5 '10 at 15:18

depends on your personal preferences.

i for one don't like talking to folks in a video chat while looking like mickey mouse. i do have a wireless headset though i prefer a microphone for video chat. i hear no complaints about poor audio quality.
