Is there any good open source/freeware software that has somewhat Nero functionality such as burning cd/dvd , erasing cd/dvd, creating data disc .. Thank you

Look at CDBurnerXP, Imgburn and Deepburner Free.

I always alternate between CDBurnerXP and Imgburn, CdBurnerXP is probably my favourite. You can grab both on Ninite.
