We're looking to replace an internal system used for managing training classes with something a bit more robust. Needs to be open-source or have a license level that grants access to source, and needs to be ASP.net (C# preferred, but could live with VB.net)

Ultimately, we'll need to be able to assign facilities and instructors, manage attendees, send notifications, and build calendar views. We'll also be integrating with our website to allow on-line sign-up and other things for attendees to manage on their own.

We do expect to implement quite a bit of it in-house, but we'd like as broad of a base to start from as we can get. Still, just a really good web-based meeting-room reservation system might make a good enough starting point.

In list form:

  • Meeting/training resource management software
  • ASP.net (C# or VB.net)
  • Source available
  • We're expecting to have to modify the software to meet all of our requirements

Take a look at SchoolTool. SchoolTool is .. a “student information system” or SIS. It is a subset of a complete “management information system” or MIS for schools.

You can take a look at drupal. It is a web-based CMS system. It might be a good starting point to get a framework for what you need, and since it does have some ASP support for integration, you might be able to hack it to work for you. It is Open Source, and relatively easy to use.

Not really looking for a CMS. We have multiple offices, some with training facilities. We have instructors. We need a way to tie instructors, facilities, and attendees together. We have a hodge-podge system that just sort of grew like weeds over time, now we'd like to properly build something given experience. So, we're looking for a good starting point that implements a significant portion of the major underlying need (facilities+instructors+attendees management). Facilities+attendees software seems to exist ("meeting room booking"), but I haven't found something that looks good, yet. – user25267 Jan 19 '10 at 0:33

You seem to be looking for Moodle.

This looks like something along the lines of Blackboard. We don't want to manage classes in progress, they're just training classes. A few days long at the most. We're concerned with sign-ups, resource (facility+instructor) management, and probably tracking who actually shows up. We might want to include how many books need to be ordered or something like that. – user25267 Jan 19 '10 at 2:18
Moodle also does scheduling, resources, etc. See docs.moodle.org/en/Scheduler:_My_Appointments – CarlF Jan 19 '10 at 5:30
