I installed xp-sp3 first then with bootable DVD installed Windows 7 in separate Partition then booted xp as earlier windows version and installed ubuntu 9.10 in 500Gb external drive taking option of 30 Gb now when I boot 3 options arethere 1) windows 7 (Highlighted) , xp & ubuntu but when I select ubuntu it says insert windows cd and repair, But if I select xp it again there are 2 options xp and ubuntu when I select ubuntu command promt opens with Grub What should I do next?

Sounds like the Boot-Loaders are completely messed up. Can you boot from a Live-CD and post the output of sudo fdisk -l here? That might help. – Bobby Jan 21 '10 at 15:37
rather than fiddling with any of the usual boot loaders (they all have their shortcomings), grab a decent 3rd party boot manager (e.g. BootItNG)and be done with it. – Molly7244 Jan 21 '10 at 17:52
