Can I use a non-synaptics device driver (i.e. ELAN) with my synaptics touchpad (Win7)? If so, should I, or is there a better way?

Per this earlier thread, I understand that my current driver is tailor-made to my laptop (acer aspire 5740-5780, windows 7 64bit). The touchpad works fine; I'm just smitten by the multi-touch options ...
