Chrome OS is an operating system based off linux, that was designed by google. While Chromium OS, the open source project behind Chrome OS can be compiled and run on a variety of hardware, Chrome OS will only run on purpose designed hardware.
Chrome OS systems are designed to be minimal - running little more than a browser , boot quickly, and be relatively secure.
