I can't see it from here, but the behavior that your describing could be a heat-related issue. There's no harm in making sure that the vents are all free of dust and/or other debris. If so, a laptop cooler pad might help.
It sounds like you're running a 32 bit version of Windows. This is a limitation of the 32 bit systems (and certain 64 bit systems, depending on the motherboards chipset) that limits how much RAM is available to the operating system.
