Opera began as a research project at a Norwegian telecommunications company back in 1994, with its first public release in 1996. Opera is currently at version 11.50 of its browser software and runs on a variety of operating systems, including Windows, OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, mobile platforms, the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii.
