Wondering how our software development process works? Take a look!

Find me on twitter, or read my blog. Don't say I didn't warn you because I totally did.

However, I no longer work at Stack Exchange, Inc. I'll miss you all. Well, some of you, anyway. :)

comment What are the functions of the BIOS while the operating system is running?
yeah, I'm not sure this is totally correct. I found that in Linux proper ACPI support is critical in the BIOS, regardless of what your Kernel does. "An ACPI-based BIOS that is not compliant with the ACPI standard might not support workable communication between the operating system (or Setup) and your hardware" technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc779659.aspx

comment Can't change drive letter to previously used drive
@surfas that does not work, because I cannot assign a drive letter to another in use drive letter -- it does not appear in the eligible list of letters. But I updated my answer to clarify how you can do it!

comment How to install the latest version of Ruby and Ruby on Rails in Ubuntu?
I just did sudo apt-get install ruby-rvm -- is there still a need to do the crazy bash stuff to beginrescueend, whatever that is?

comment How should I choose my DNS?
can you please link to the relevant RFC? Also, most CDN geographical routing (you are in France, therefore your request should be served by a French server, etc) is done via your IP address, not DNS.

@Tortoise some of the degaussing pages I found said that the strict DOD standards require removing the top metal case of the drive before degaussing with a real degaussing wand, but it sounded like that was them being extra-extra super careful and going beyond what was typically necessary to erase the drive...

how much is a degausser that will work? Or can he borrow a degausser? Have you used one? Also, a proper degaussing will definitely erase the drive's firmware as well, which could be problematic.. though presumably the manufacturer can fix that.

this does seem like the most rational option

it's better to use google directly, no need to visit an actual website. google.com/search?q=my+ip at the top Your public IP address is 192.168.0.1

Most ATI cards can support 3 monitors with a single card. And as @afrazier pointed out there are 6 monitor versions.

first choice should always be to contact the manufacturer of your keyboard for repair, of course.

comment Differences between Cherry mechanical keyboard switches?
OP said "I don't mind a clicky noise (I would actually prefer a bit of noise), I just don't want anything overpowering.". Buckling spring is the loudest option there is, short of typing by firing handguns at the keyboard.. youtube.com/watch?v=9J0ZAKd8mF4

@jour and as I said I think four times now, answers are free -- even encouraged -- to go "above and beyond" what was asked for. Not sure how many times I need to repeat this, but I guess I will keep doing so over and over until it sinks in :) I mean, who is going to complain about an answer that goes the extra mile for them?

@jour going back to the first revision: 1. OP explicitly mentioned Cherry Blue as a reference point 2. OP specifically mentioned noise 3. OP said "being sold in keyboards for a sane price". All three of these point directly to the question being best focused on Cherry switch mechanical keyboards. They are inexpensive (for mechanicals), can be somewhat quiet (unlike buckling spring), and they can be obtained fairly easily as they are not totally obscure -- most people can probably find a vendor that sells at least one or two different cherry switch mechanical keyboards.
