Wondering how our software development process works? Take a look!

Find me on twitter, or read my blog. Don't say I didn't warn you because I totally did.

However, I no longer work at Stack Exchange, Inc. I'll miss you all. Well, some of you, anyway. :)

comment dd-wrt router firmware QoS troubleshooting
@piotr partially, but I got it mostly resolved per my answer -- I just wanted to try tomato mostly, which does have QoS that works out of the box at least.

comment Why does Chrome on Windows 7 not show certain Unicode characters to me?
@xpda you're right; the character works in the address bar and the body on Firefox, and does not work in either place in Chrome. Fascinating.

comment Why does Chrome on Windows 7 not show certain Unicode characters to me?
@jjn it's a partial answer, which is generally allowed

comment Why does Chrome on Windows 7 not show certain Unicode characters to me?
that's fine, but I don't think the question was about the box, but why some browsers can display this particular character and others cannot.

comment Where does most of the laptop heat come from?
generally only when plugged in and actively charging; normally it contributes very little heat at all.

I don't think inbound QoS is intended to ever work -- I remember reading this, somewhere. Also I ultimately did end up switching to the Asus RT-N16 and Tomato.

comment Restoring performance and estimating life of a used SSD drive?
@dennis agreed, the SMART numbers shouldn't be viewed as 100% accurate

@dennis sure, if there is such a utility -- feel free to point me to one.

comment Restoring performance and estimating life of a used SSD drive?
@dennis I am a power user who lives in front of my computer almost 24/7; I suspect your wife is not. That's the only relevant data point here :) but the SMART data is kind of all over the map (and I suspect it was reset with a firmware update 9 months ago), see goo.gl/fDlqA and goo.gl/DF0sl

@sblair good to know; I tried the tool on a new OCZ Vertex 2 and it has totally different SMART fields and values.

comment Restoring performance and estimating life of a used SSD drive?
it probably does the same thing as the the other recommended tools, writing zeroes to the whole drive which are interpreted by the controller as TRIM clear commands on every block.

@steve this has nothing at all to do with pentium 4, see the above link.
