comment Opened a JPG picture with notepad, pasted all the “text” to a new notepad file, changed to .JPG and it no longer opens. Why?
@CareyGregory when you deal with binary data in C++ you do not use strings, but byte[], with the length being a different data item (metadata). "Strings" do not need that metadata because an special character (\0) signals the end of the data. Of course, this means that at least \0 is illegal as the content of a string (they could have allowed to register an "escaped" \0, but that would require modifying the raw data too, so it is not a solution to the OP).

I would say split the first column in two and use a dynamic graph/table

For whoever finds this useful --> Control Panel --> User accounts --> Advanced --> Manage Passwords. Names can change a little (I am translating from a Spanish language PC).

comment Windows Anytime Upgrade license key not working
@GrahamBorland That other people should refer to MS support, too. So my comment is really my answer.

Why don't you ask to MS support people?

Since this is the best answer so far and a bounty is a terrible thing to waste, there it goes.

Of course, either barcodes or QR means that fraud (duplicating cards) is trivial.

Yes I checked and most of our desktops (and all of the newer ones) are enabled. I'll look at the BIOS thing, it might be useful as a deterrent (I only knew of old, easily resetable BIOS).

comment What's a better way to connect my PC to the DSL modem, 10 m of ethernet cable or a WLAN adapter?
Having to encapsulate the frames over wifi (and encrypting and decrypting them) means some latency, and more sensitivity to noise means that even in good conditions some packets need to be repeated. And of course, the day you upgrade your DSL you already have the capacity available.

I already had found it, but does not comply with my goals of surviving a format. The objective is not only protecting from data theft but also catching (and from that, deterring) thieves who right now are working with impunity. Also, prey would not defend us if someone wanted to steal data by just using a liveCD.

Or at least, if I have to use a program, be as sure as I can be that I only have to install one of them (and not trying half a dozen)

Yes. I was hoping for a more specific answer, if someone had experience with this kind of malware. If possible, I prefer removing malware manually than to add yet another program in the mix.
