comment Protected flash video (requires HAL) on Gentoo
@Chenmunka this actually solves the issue perfectly. Since it's addition into portage (the Gentoo package manager), simply installing it via the emerge command indicated solves the problem without having to manually download, patch, compile, install and configure HAL code -- I'm changing the accepted answer to this one as it more correctly reflects the current state of affairs.

comment Excel, how to find column number of min value?
Check out ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89269 -- it's for a similar problem, but with rows instead of columns. I expect you can probably edit it to match your needs.

comment restore “vanished” paritions after installing Windows
I'm seeing salingfamily.net/trav/linux/lost_partition.html and tldp.org/HOWTO/Partition/recovering.html as possible solution candidates, I'm just rather hoping somebody might have suggestions / tips

I installed it over the previous windows installation partition. Everything went exactly as expected, and the Windows 7 partition is in the same place, same size, etc. Only my logical partition is now inexplicably unallocated space :<

I seriously cannot thank you enough, this script makes my life easier on a daily basis. The only thing I changed was to add int(rand(1000)) to iport, to allow multiple instances to run at the same time. I definitely owe you a beer.

Yes, you should be able to use the tunneled connection as a SOCKS proxy, unless host2 denies forwarding

Thanks for the git links. It fails to compile with the same error when pulled from Git... I'm starting to think that it's not happy with gcc 4.6.2

comment Protected flash video (requires HAL) on Gentoo
I replaced the Gentoo patches with the ones in the AUR tarball (since they don't seem to be compatible with each other) but the compilation still fails with the same error as when grabbing it from an overlay (see update to my question)

Thanks for checking back :) I'm having the darndest time -- no ebuilds will compile, and all the release / git links on HAL's official page seem to be broken. I'll check out the AUR page and see if I can glean anything from there

awesome, i'll try compiling and installing and see how it goes. I thought it had been replaced from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_%28software%29#Deprecated

comment Changing gnome-terminal color theme depending on running app
This. Wrapping the desired in shell scripts that setterm the terminal then run the program is pretty much the only way to do this.
