Given that it is for a Dr's office, I rather imagine the requirement is to use a specific PC-based health care records application that has little to no way to export data to a web application.

An alternative to Remote Desktop is VNC, which does allow for multiple connections to the same live desktop.

I assume you're trying to test the HW port - if so, this may not get you what you want. I don't know Windows networking as well as another OS, but the OS will likely short circuit the data path and never actually hit the hardware.

You're right, I missed that. However, I would think that in Windows you can get similar information by going into the Device Manager and looking at the Properties on the device. Or boot up a Linux Live CD on the machine and use the Linux tools to inspect the hardware.
